I watched Donald Trump’s remarks about his presidential order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” He mentioned in passing that he also was considering renaming one of the two oceans abutting the continental United States the “American Ocean” — an excellent idea that is overdue by five centuries. In case he renames the Pacific Ocean to “American Ocean,” I suppose the Pacific Northwest would become the “American Northwest”?
