THETFORD CENTER–Like pulling the plug on a terminal patient, the U.S. Postal Service has sent a formal announcement to local residents that it is giving up on maintaining a physical post office in Thetford Center.

NORTH HAVERHILL–In November, New Hampshire voters will be asked whether they want to adopt a two-year cap on local school property taxes under a measure enacted by House Bill 1300.

FAIRLEE–On Aug. 20 during their regularly scheduled meeting, the Fairlee Selectboard discussed a local options tax. The idea was raised by Fairlee Zoning Administrator Chris Brimmer in his regular report to the board.

EAST CORINTH–Town officials could move forward with legal action against the owner of a village building that was once a thriving general store and memorably featured in the Beetlejuice movies.

An apartment building in Bradford represents four out of more than 1,200 housing units that have been fixed up or built through the Vermont Housing Improvement Program, which has now been greenlit for ongoing funding.

The former Lyme man sentenced last month to at least 35 years in prison for killing his cousin has appealed his conviction to the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

THETFORD–Sitting in a circle under a shade tree in the Thetford Academy quad on Aug. 18, a handful of pleased grown-ups envisioned a pleasant future for children. TA Head of School Carrie Brennan described the new addition, called The Commons, long-imagined and now becoming reality.

NEWBURY–Newbury Common has 66 trees and nine of them are ash, prized by the invasive pest Emerald Ash Borer. The future of the trees was the subject of a selectboard-sponsored community listening session on Aug. 15 with chair Susan Culp and members Andrew Lee and Shauna Prime.

BATH–The Bath Zoning Board of Adjustment has unanimously approved a variance for a proposed cell tower which has drawn some local opposition.
