A new workforce training program is aiming to connect Eastern Kentuckians with careers in the growing nuclear energy industry. Shaping Our Appalachian Region, or SOAR, has partnered with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to launch a 16-week training pathway at six community colleges across the region. One person is dead after a medical emergency resulted in a crash in Harlan County. Kentucky State Police troopers responded to the crash on Banner Fork Road near the Wallins community around 5:40 Friday afternoon. Fifty-six-year-old Robert Haywood of Wallins was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. and the coroner says he may have had a medical emergency that caused the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Gas prices are dropping across Kentucky this week. That's according to AAA, which says the current average cost per-gallon is at $3.38 in the state. That's a nearly ten-cent drop compared to last week's prices. Nationally, the average cost per-gallon is at $3.79.
A young child is dead following an accident involving fireworks in Pulaski County. The incident happened Saturday night at a home on Jacksboro Street in Somerset, when a tube of fireworks fell over and struck the child in their torso. The child, identified as four-year-old Rhett Luttrell, died from his injuries. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office describes the incident as a "freak accident."
The Kentucky State Fair is hiring workers for temporary positions during the fair. The fair runs August 20th to the 30th at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
