PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WXKQ) - Kentucky State Police Post 9 has wrapped up Operation Mountain Justice, a coordinated effort targeting suspected drug trafficking across its service area. One person is dead after a medical emergency resulted in a crash in Harlan County. Kentucky State Police troopers responded to the crash on Banner Fork Road near the Wallins community around 5:40 Friday afternoon. Fifty-six-year-old Robert Haywood of Wallins was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. and the coroner says he may have had a medical emergency that caused the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

A young child is dead following an accident involving fireworks in Pulaski County. The incident happened Saturday night at a home on Jacksboro Street in Somerset, when a tube of fireworks fell over and struck the child in their torso. The child, identified as four-year-old Rhett Luttrell, died from his injuries. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office describes the incident as a "freak accident."
