Three people were injured in a shooting today in Long Beach that prompted a police pursuit to downtown Los Angeles and an officer-involved shooting. A shooting suspect led police on a wild chase, opening fire on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach before eventually crashing in downtown Los Angeles.

First responders are at the scene of a sinking boat in Long Beach, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Ground and water resources responded to a pier off Navy Way near Terminal Island on Monday for a report of a 30-foot power boat that was taking on water. Four passengers were able to safely disembark, LAFD said. It’s unclear what caused the boat to sink. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Long Beach is proposing deep cuts and hundreds of layoffs and eliminated positions as it tries to close a $58.2 million budget deficit. But at the same time, the city’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget shows higher pay for some of the people at the top of City Hall, including the mayor, city manager, city councilmembers and several department directors. The proposed budget eliminates 483 positions — 220 vacant and 263 filled — though the city says it hopes to limit layoffs.
