A suspect who was not properly searched or not searched at all produced a handgun inside a holding cell at the Pittsburg Police Department, sources told CBS News Bay Area, which led to a shooting that injured an officer and the suspect. Authorities in the East Bay are investigating after a Pittsburg Police officer was shot by an armed suspect and a Richmond police officer was shot following a standoff, both on Thursday evening. Both were wounded and are now in stable condition. The shooting was the second involving Contra Costa County law enforcement on Thursday evening.

A Pittsburg police officer and a male suspect were hospitalized after a firearm discharged during a physical altercation at the police department.
