8/26 Tonto National Forest officials say forward progress was stopped on the Cab Fire, just north of Payson. The fire was spotted Tuesday and was stopped at ¾ of an acre. The blaze was caused by a downed powerline. Payson Fire Department also responded to the call.

8/12 The Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs Monday evening regarding a plane that had crashed in the forest west of Payson. Officials responded by helicopter and located the crash site in a remote area. The people on board the plane were identified as 75-year-old Brad Lawrence and 19-year-old Carter Buckner, both of Payson. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the cause of the crash.
